My last few Baptist churches were 100% white with 100% male leadership; there was so much blatant racism that the african-american and Latino communities worshipped in their own churches and so much sexism that many women didn’t really feel accepted or that they were being taken seriously. When I was a part of a non-denominational church, there was a even mixture of races and both men and women were leaders and we had all sorts of different people attending because they felt represented. It’s odd, isn’t it, that racism and sexism seem to go hand-in-hand; when there’s a problem with one, odds are there’s a problem with the other going un-diagnosed and untreated, giving the cancer of hatred free reign to destroy the body of believers.
